Maifest
GAPA did not work Maifest security this year. Not enough people signed up to do it in a timely manner which left us unable to commit to the contractual obligations to the Maifest Committee. It does not mean we won’t ever do it again if the opportunity arises, but if we do consider it, we’re going to need firm commitment from enough members in a timely manner so that some of us don’t have to stand out there all weekend while so many others can’t spare us anytime at all. Woulda, coulda, shoulda ain’t gonna to get ‘er done. If enough of the membership has a genuine interest—a firm commitment to work it—I’’m with them. If not, let’s move on and fuggggetttaaabout it.

Golf Outing
Picture perfect summer day! Joe Kirchens came through with another excellent outing. Randy Jaeger rounded up enough hole/flag sponsors to sweeten the outing for us. And, John Glunz won the longest drive. The banquet at the American Aid Society of German Descendants provided us with delicious, German home cooking- – schnitzel, brats and potato salad washed down with some cold Hofbrau courtesy of John and Jerry Glunz, who also donated so many great raffle prizes. Tim Schaefer, Ed Bacher & Dave Dunhamn of the Chicago Patrolman’s Credit Union, thanks also for helping with raffle prizes. We thank Joe Stein, his daughter Laura Casey and their Aid Society staff for excellent service. Not to mention, John Meindl, John Huinker, Pat Kirchens, Ed & Mary Ruettiger, Randy Jaeger, Jeff Schuck, Tom [email protected], Joe Schreiner, Ed Bacher and my wife Carol for all their help throughout the day. GAPA Picnic
Our annual picnic will be Friday, 08 July 2016 at Bunker Hill forest preserve. John Meindl has fun filled day in store for us! See ad/map inside. Don’t forget to buy or sell some of our GAPA 1000 Raffle tix.

GAPA Road Trips
The Annual GAPA Chicago/GAPA Milwaukee Tailgater for the Norbert Holzinger Cup is on for 23 July 2016. Tix still available. Contact Tom Moritz {815- 464- 4665} for further info. Total cost is $110 per person which includes round trip bus, bbq and Hofbraeu on tap at the tailgate which is situated right under the German flag in the parking lot of Miller Park.

This year, German Fest Milwaukee will be held 30 July 2016 at Henry Meier Park on Milwaukee’s lakefront. We are reserving hotel rooms for the weekend. For more information call Tom Moritz.

GAPA is also planning to visit Wurst Fest in New Braunfels, Texas, a town in the hill country near San Antonio which was founded by German immigrants in the 19th century. GAPA has rooms blocked off at the Fairfield Inn in New Braunfels from Thursday to Monday, 3 to 7 November 2016. See ad inside & contact Tom for further info.
