President’s Message
Guten tag!
I hope everyone is enjoying their summertime with their family and friends. The Board and Officers have been hard at work keeping GAPA current during these summer months. Once again a big thank you to Rita Geoghegan (I spelt her last name right this time) for her generous donation to the GAPA.
How about a big shout out of congratulations to the German Day Society on celebrating their 100 year anniversary. Great Job! Can’t wait to see what festivities and events they have in store for the next 100 years.
Continuing with happy news, a big congratulation to GAPA member Matthew and Shannon Shaefer for the recent addition to the Schaefer family. Adelynn Jane Schaefer was born June ninth and currently shows all the traits of a stubborn German. Oh, in case you are interested, Mom, Dad and Grandpa are doing just fine.
A speedy recovery goes out to Loralei Haas who recently broke her leg. A speedy recovery to Jerry Glunz who was recently in the hospital. He is home now recovering nicely. Also a speedy recovery to Ming Schuck who recently broke her leg while in Germany. She is home and currently in physical therapy.
Now let’s do a little traveling. Everyone had a nice time at the GAPA Golf Outing. Over one hundred golfers came out for the event, enjoying the sport, great weather and excellent German food and drink. A huge thank you goes out to the Golf Meister Joe Kirchens and Jeff Schuck who put in many hours to make the event a huge success. Final golf note, mark your calendars for next year’s outing which will be 12 June 2023.
Traveling north we have the annual Cubs vs Brewers game in Milwaukee. The complete outcome of the event is not being disclosed at this time. You will have to wait for the next newsletter or come on out and watch the game.
Coming back to Chicago we have the annual German Fest (09/09,10 &11/ 2022) and the Steuben day parade on (09/10/2022). The parade kicks off at 1400 hours. Once again we will meet at Lachet’s for a nice brunch and refreshments. Start time for the brunch will be 1100 hours. The brunch and two beverages are free for those wishing to participate in the parade festivities. Hope to see you there.
I would like to thank everyone that signed up to work the German Fest. Your volunteer efforts helped our organization financially. Thank You.
